Julia Wider
I am a final year mature from the University of Huddersfield, when I finish I will have a BA (Hons) in Textiles Crafts (to be awarded July 2011) and a specialism in knit.
I am a reliable, friendly, hard working individual able to work on solo and group projects with good communication skills and the ability to be an effective team player. I have acquired a wide range of transferable skills suitable for careers in the fashion or textiles sectors.
I enjoy the overall process of creating with the knitting. I have a strong eye for colour and like to create palettes that stand out from the crowd. My knitting has a textural feel and sculptural silhouettes. Techniques that have a handicraft feel feature in my knitted garments and jewlery as I enjoy to use traditional and simple techniques of crochet, hand-knitting and domestic machine knitting to create unique and exciting designs
Confident in the use of single/double bed domestic knitting machines (Brother).
Familiarity with sewing machines, industrial steamers and over lockers.
My current work is knitted garments, each one of them has a different colour palette, an elegant dramatic palette of rich colours.
As a future designer maker, knitting and crochet will not only be a part of my career to create bespoke garments and accessories but also of my daily domestic routine, blurring the boundaries between work and home.
