Marie Wallin
Marie joined the Rowan creative design team in 2005 as Head In House Designer.
Marie was born in Bolton and after a science based education went on to pursue her first love of art and design by studying a degree in Knitwear Design at Leicester Polytechnic - now De Montfort University. Marie was taught to knit at the age of 6 or 7 and learnt to crochet when she was a little older.
After leaving college with a first class honours degree, Marie went on to set up her own knitwear design label which she sold throughout Japan and the US. Marie is a prolific and highly creative designer and her knitwear has been part of many collections in high street retailers such as Next, Burtons, BHS and Debenham’s over the years.

Marie is responsible for the creative aspect of Rowan, not only in the knitwear designs but also the photo shoots, styling and art direction. As well as being the main designer for the Rowan magazine and seasonal brochures, Marie is also responsible for content, look and feel of these publications. She is also heavily involved with development and selection of new yarns and colours which are introduced into the ranges each season.
More recently Marie has been heading Rowan’s eco drive and the return to sourcing natural and sustainable yarns. The introduction of the Purelife brand in 2007 aims to produce yarns that are formed in an ethical and environmental way has been a huge success globally and is a subject close to Marie’s heart.
“Purelife has been 3 years in the making and was a project that I was very keen to introduce when I first arrived at Rowan in 2005. I strongly feel that if we were starting Rowan from scratch today, in would be in the guise of Purelife. Rowan as a brand has a philosophy built on great design, beautiful yarns and colour, with an ethos of everything natural. Purelife is a concept of choice. Rowan is offering the consumer the choice to use yarns which are produced in a socially, responsible way and are kind to the environment. I am sure in the coming years the Purelife brand will go from strength to strength as more customers will choose Purelife to reflect their own lifestyles, as we all move towards living in a more sustainable way”.
